Abstract

Biological features of sugar beet flea beetle were studied during 1986-1988 in Karaj region. According our laboratory and natural studies, this insect has only one generation each year and passes the winter as adult. Overwintering adults appear in the mid-April, when mean degree temperature is about 9.4-10.4 co. The complete life cycle, under laboratory conditions (22.6 C and 50.2 % R. H.) was about 47 days.Egg is laid on the collar or on the soil near it, larva feeds on the root of host plants, pupa is formed near the surface of the soil and new adult appear from end of June. In addition to sugar beet, this insect feeds on Chenopodium album L., Lepidum sativum, Rumex acetosa, Amaranthus spp. Portulaca oleracea L.The maximum population density of overwintering adults occurs in mid-May and new adults in July and August.
